We all have an image in our minds of a used car salesman, and it’s not a good one. Of course, like anything else, there are exceptions to the rule. Back in June, a woman went to Northtowne Auto Group in Gladstone, Missouri, to buy a car for her son, who was about to head off to college in Kansas. J. P. Knudsen (pictured), the owner of the dealership, sold her a 2017 Hundai Tucson with 85,000 miles on it. It came with a 30-day/1,000-mile warranty. Unfortunately, a few months and 2,000 miles later, the motor went out. The woman asked J.P. for a free inspection, which only confirmed the dead motor. “What are we gonna do?” J.P. asked his followers on TikTok. He already knew the answer. He has been in the car business for over 30 years and has always made customer service his top priority. This time would be no different. He told the woman to come back to the dealership a little later in the week and he would get her a different car for the same money she had already invested in the old one. Whatever car she preferred, he’d find a way to make it happen. For most people, J.P.’s story may seem a little unrealistic, mainly because the vast majority of consumers don’t trust car dealers to be honest. Thankfully, not everyone operates by the same standards. As a result of the story going viral on social media, J.P. can look forward to some new business. There were around 6,000 comments on social media, with many saying that they would buy their next vehicle at Northtowne.
