Dan Aykroyd has admitted that he was diagnosed with Asperger’s syndrome in the 1980s, when his wife persuaded him to seek professional help. He confessed that one of his symptoms is his obsession with ghosts. "I became obsessed by Hans Holzer, the greatest ghost hunter ever. That’s when the idea of my film Ghostbusters was born." Long before he was diagnosed with high-functioning autism, Aykroyd was told he had Tourette’s syndrome at only 12 years old. “I had physical ticks, nervousness, and made grunting noises that affected how outgoing I was,” he said. By the time he turned 14, therapy had eased his symptoms. As if these two disorders aren’t bad enough, Aykroyd also has heterochromia iridium — one green eye and one blue eye — and syndactyly, which means two of his toes on each foot are webbed. The good news is, he may have a long lifespan. His father lived to be 98, and his mother passed away at the age of 100.
