Spirit Airlines Introduces New Dress Code For Passengers

In the 1950s, passengers dressed very formally to fly, with men typically wearing suits and ties and women wearing dresses, hats and gloves. Flying was considered a special event, and people dressed up as if going to a nice dinner or event, reflecting the “Golden Age of Air Travel.” Fast-forward 75 years and you never know what you’ll see passengers wearing as their board flights today. Spirit Airlines has some advice for passengers: Save the crop tops for the beach and keep your feet in your shoes. The Florida-based airline has just announced a crackdown on inadequate or inappropriate clothing on its flights. The new rule dictates that passengers shall not be permitted to board if they are barefoot or inadequately clothed. Among the examples of inappropriate travel outfits are see-through clothing; clothing that exposes breasts, buttocks or other private parts; and lewd, obscene or offensive clothing and tattoos. The new regulation comes after multiple incidents of passengers being confronted over their attire. A representative of Spirit Airlines said that all passengers are technically notified that they have to dress a certain way to board flights when they sign the Contract of Carriage.
