Why a Photo of a Subaru Forrester Driver at a Traffic Light Has Americans Outraged

A photo of a Subaru Forrester at a traffic light near Yellowstone National Park that was shared on Facebook has left Americans bewildered. The picture shows the car with a white canoe strapped on top horizontally rather than vertically, leaving many wondering what the driver’s thought process was. Comments included, “Lewis & Clark they are not,” and “I’d like to see that car go through a toll booth.” Many expressed concern that the canoe could cause harm to other motorists, while some said it wasn’t the first time they had witnessed a tourist improperly tie their canoes. Others called the driver a “touron” — a combination of “tourist” and “moron.” Wes Allen, owner of Sunlight Sports in Cody, Wyoming, said he found the driver’s unique positioning captivating, saying there’s no way the driver did that by accident. He also explained that the unusual positioning would likely reduce the driver’s gas mileage considerably. Karen Richards, owner of Outdoor Adventures Revived, chimed in, saying, "You can tell by how they treat and transport their gear that they’re not outdoor people and aren’t familiar with safety rules."
