Catching Criminals Just Got a Lot Easier Thanks To a New Method of Analyzing Cat Hair

Almost every cat on the planet has a unique DNA mutation that’s detectable in their hair, and now it’s offering CSI detectives an almost sure-fire way to put criminals at the scene of their crimes or their homes, provided there was a cat there. Anyone who has a cat knows that it’s nearly impossible to get out of the house without cat hair stuck somewhere in or on their clothing. Thanks to a new innovative DNA analysis technique, cat hair can successfully place a perpetrator at the scene of a crime. In one case, the skeletal remains in a murder case could be matched with DNA from the hair of the perpetrator’s cat. Pet hair is a valuable source of linking evidence, and the same approach could also be applied using dog hair.
