The Queen Left Behind a Secret Letter That Cannot Be Opened Until 2085

While Queen Elizabeth II passed away in September of last year, her powerful words will live on far into the future, thanks to a secret letter she left behind. She wrote the letter in November 1986 and it’s been hidden in a building dedicated to her great-grandmother, Queen Victoria, ever since. The Queen addressed the letter to the Lord Mayor of Sydney to honor the refurbishment of the Queen Victoria Building, which was first built in 1898 to commemorate Victoria’s Diamond Jubilee. Instructions on the letter read: “On a suitable day to be selected by you in the year 2085, would you please open this envelope and convey to the citizens of Sydney my message to them.” Since the late monarch penned the letter some 36 years ago, it has been kept in a glass case in a restricted part of the building. Even the Queen’s personal staff hasn't been informed about the contents of the letter.
