Say goodbye to Schlitz. The long-loved Milwaukee beer brand, which has been brewed since 1849, is halting production on Saturday. The company says that continued increases in their costs are the reason they’re closing down. Wisconsin Brewing Company brewmaster Kirby Nelson said it got to the point where Schlitz just had to be discontinued, but it may not be forever. Right now, they’re considering the absence as a “hiatus.” The company is selling a limited batch on June 27 at the brewery in what Nelson calls a “big extravaganza” celebrating Schlitz’s legacy, with preorders available May 23 on the company’s website.
