The Tiny Town in Italy With a Narrow Street That’s Just 17 Inches Wide

High in the rolling hills of the Italian province of Ascoli Piceno, there’s a tiny village that not many people have heard of. Steeped in medieval history, the picturesque town of Ripatransone boasts sweeping views across the surrounding countryside. Despite its lofty reputation, the village is home to just over 4,100 residents and is criss-crossed by a maze of winding, narrow streets. Hidden among them is one particularly famous passageway, a street so slender it measures just 17 inches at its narrowest point. The small passageway doesn't even have a name, and although it’s fully paved, it would be a squeeze to walk down. Dubbed “The Narrowest Alley in Italy,” Tripadvisor rates it as a 4.2 out of 5 stars. Tourists say it’s not to be missed, with some saying it’s fun to go up and down the narrow passage. Aside from its narrow passageways, Ripatransone is a treasure trove of history, culture and nature.
