Canadian Town’s Food Bank is “Scrambling” to Distribute 300,000-Egg Donation

A food bank in the town of Moosomin in the Canadian province of Saskatchewan is reeling from a massive donation of eggs. Moosomin Food Share received more than 25,000 cartons of eggs this week, which means they had to figure out how to get rid of 300,000 eggs. Samantha Campbell, manager of the food share, explained that the donation came from Second Harvest, a food rescue organization. They had received the eggs from Egg Farmers of Canada, the industry body managing egg production across Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario and Quebec. Occasionally there are surpluses across the country at various grading facilities, and when there are, they distribute them within the charity network. Other huge donations made recently include 50,000 pounds of potatoes and 8,400 pounds of tomatoes.
