Two Women Have Been Exchanging the Same Birthday Card For the Past 81 Years

Last week, Pat DeReamer turned 95, and the best thing she received was a birthday card from a lifelong friend. In fact, it was the same birthday card the two women have been exchanging for the past 81 years. The tradition began on Pat’s 14th birthday in Indianapolis, when her friend Mary Wheaton gave her a birthday card. Pat added her own signature to the card and returned it to Mary on her birthday in May. The exchange began a tradition that continues to this day. “We never said, ‘We’re going to do this.’ It just happened,” said Pat. The women earned a Guinness World Record for the longest greeting card exchange in the 60th year of their tradition. Now in their 90s, the two friends don't get time together as frequently as before, but their connection remains unshakable. Their incredible story is far from over. The card will soon make its journey back to Mary in May for her 95th birthday.
