Motorist Drives Off Incomplete Bridge After Google Maps Gives Incorrect Directions

A driver in Indonesia experienced a frightening event after following Google Maps directions that led him to a 40-foot drop off an unfinished bridge. Rudie Komandono had set up his smartphone on the dashboard of his BMW and was following the map to a friend’s house. While the app had mapped the new road in East Java and rerouted him away from the incomplete highway, he was perplexed by the change in direction. Instead of taking a detour, the 61-year-old passed through a gap in a concrete barrier and plowed ahead. Shocking video showed his luxury sedan hurtling off the incomplete bridge and crashing down onto the road below. Both Rudie and his passenger, 47-year-old Endang Sri Wahyuni, escaped with minor injuries. Police have since closed the gap and put up warning signs to prevent other drivers from making the same mistake.
