Oklahoma City Landlord Charging Tenants If They Flush Toilet Paper

An Oklahoma City woman wants answers after she says her apartment complex came up with a set of rules telling her she can’t flush toilet paper. Paulette Coleman, who lives in the Mira Vista Apartments, said she’s doing her best to comply with the rules, but it's not easy. The single mother-of-two revealed that she keeps a special trash can in her bathroom for disposing of used toilet paper because she can't afford to incur a fine. Residents of the apartment complex received a warning from the landlord: “Warning! The next time there’s a sewer backup, there will be a $50 fine added to your next month’s rent.” Coleman said she was told that flushing toilet paper is a health issue, which is not true. News investigators from KFOR-TV contacted the Oklahoma City’s Utility Division to see if there are any current problems with sewage in the area, but were told they had no record of any utility work being done in the area of the apartment complex. The news investigator also tried to make contact with the landlord, but was told by security to vacate the premises.
