Credit Card Companies Are Beginning To Charge Customers For Paper Statements



Customers of credit cards from a raft of big retailers must pay $1.99 if they still want to receive a paper statement. Synchrony Bank, which provides dozens of co-branded cards for companies like Amazon and Walgreens has been rolling out the fee in recent months. While there’s no law banning paper statement fees, companies must get customers’ permission before switching them to digital billing. For many Americans, digital statements are unwelcome. In fact, many seniors feel uncomfortable with technology and prefer the printed statements to manage their finances. Attorneys at the National Consumer Law Center argue that charging consumers for paper statements is unjust. Social media exploded with comments, with some users saying they will close their accounts if they’re charged for paper statements.
