Bird Confuses British Police Officers By Mimicking Sirens
Oxfordshire Police were left confused recently when a blackbird convincingly mimicked the sound of the sirens on their cars. Thames Valley Police said staff initially thought their vehicles had developed a mechanical problem after hearing the noise at a police substation in Bicester. A video filmed at the site and posted on social media shows the bird chirping in a tree, replicating the sound of a police siren. The tree is located close to the police fleet's workshop, which enabled the bird to sit patiently listening to the noise in order to recreate it. While common blackbirds have the ability to mimic sounds, they rarely use it. That’s why this particular blackbird is drawing so much attention. Meanwhile, police can now relax, knowing that their vehicles are not malfunctioning.

Fact of the Day
Prior to the 1970s, natural gas was odorless. The smell we now associate with it was invented by British engineer Peter Hansen, who was asked to create the “nastiest smell possible” so people could detect gas leaks.
Nature Oddities
Semi-bulletproof animals include armadillos, crocodiles, elephants and rhinos. They will, however, succumb to being shot with heavy-duty weapons specifically designed for killing big game.
Food and Drink
Uncle Ben’s rice was sent to American troops during World War II because the parboiling process kept the nutrients in the rice, lessened cooking time, and stopped bug infestations.
