Animal Lover Cared For What She Thought Was a Hedgehog, Only To Be Shocked At What It Really Was

A well-meaning unidentified woman thought she was going a good deed when she scooped up what she thought was a baby hedgehog from the side of the road. Back at her house, she placed it in a box, along with some cat food and water, hoping it would do okay until she could seek help in the morning. She was concerned in the morning when she noticed that the hedgehog had not moved or pooped all night. Being careful not to touch the hedgehog with her hands for fear that she would stress it out, she took it to the Lower Moss Nature Reserve and Wildlife Hospital in Cheshire, England. Veterinarian Janet Kotze described the woman as in her sixties or seventies, with well-meaning intentions. Unfortunately, Kotze with tasked with the humorous job of telling the woman that what she had rescued wasn’t an animal at all, but a pom-pom from a sock hat. The staff jokingly nicknamed the pom-pom “Hoglet.” Despite the mistake, the staff wants people to know that kindness knows no bounds. “Please remember, if you spot a hedgehog out during the day, it’s a sign something’s not right. Pop them in a box with a warm source and seek help from your local vet."
