The 5-Ingredient Meal You Can Whip Up In Under 30 Minutes

You don’t need a laundry list of ingredients and all afternoon to make a filling and delicious meal. With daily demands of work, chauffeuring kids to activities, and day-to-day chores, it’s hard to find time to really cook. Planning ahead is crucial, but that doesn’t have to mean spending all weekend cooking ahead. Here’s a quick and easy meal that only contains five ingredients can be pulled together in under the time it takes to pick up something from a fast-food restaurant. Cacio e Pepe — or spaghetti with cheese and pepper — is a quick and filling dish that everyone in your family will love.

  • * ½ pound spaghetti 
  • *2 tbsp olive oil 
  • *2 tbsp unsalted butter 
  • *2 tbsp coarsely ground pepper
  • *4 oz grated Parmesan cheese or Pecorino Romano cheese 

  1. 1. Bring a large pot of salted water to boil and cook pasta for one minute less than the package instructs. 
  2. 2. Save 1 cup of pasta water, and then drain the pasta. 
  3. 3. Heat a large sauté pan over medium heat and add the olive oil, butter, and pepper. Stir to combine. 
  4. 4. Stir in the reserved pasta water. 
  5. 5. Toss in the cooked pasta and reduce the heat to low. 
  6. 6. Add the cheese and toss until it’s melted and the pasta is well coated.
