The “WKRP in Cincinnati” Closing Theme Is All Gibberish

Remember that rock song at the end of the CBS sitcom WKRP in Cincinnati — the one that ends with a kitten meowing? If you’ve tried to make out the lyrics, good luck. That’s because they’re all gibberish. The hard rock number was composed and performed by Jim Ellis, an Atlanta musician who recorded some of the incidental music for the show. Unfortunately, Ellis didn’t yet have lyrics for the closing theme when he met with the show's creator, Hugh Wilson, so he sang nonsense words to give him an idea of how it would sound. Wilson decided to use the words anyway, since he felt it would be funny to use lyrics that were deliberately gibberish. Because CBS always had an announcer talking over the closing credits, he knew no one would actually hear the closing theme lyrics anyway.
