It was a story of David vs. Goliath when Madam Choo Hong Eng took on a Singapore casino. In 2011, Madam Choo — dubbed “Jackpot Aunty” — took Marina Bay Sands Casino to court when they refused to pay her the $410,000 she had won from hitting the jackpot on a slot machine. The casino claimed there was a malfunction with their slot machine, instead offering Madam Choo a car worth $250,000. She won her court case and donated all her winnings to charity organizations. She has not been to a casino since. “You will never win again, I don’t gamble,” said Choo. Today, she is the owner of Kwan Inn restaurant, serving high quality, innovative, and soulful Chinese-style vegetarian food and offering more than 100 dishes.
