Your Favorite Streaming Services Are About To Get More Expensive

Get ready to shell out a few more bucks for your Disney+ subscription, and don’t be surprised if other streaming services hike their prices soon as well. At a gathering of media and tech executives recently, Disney CEO Bob Chapek said that streaming services are “underpriced.” In August, Disney announced that it would be raising its monthly subscription fee by nearly 40%, from $7.99 a month to $10.99 a month. In January, Netflix announced it would be increasing the service’s basic plan from $8.99 a month to $9.99 a month, while its standard and 4K tiers increased by $2 a month. Discovery+ is $6.99 a month without ads and $4.99 a month with ads, but CEO Gunnar Wiedenfels said the company might be hiking prices once it launches its streaming service combining HBO Max and Discovery+ in mid-2023. All streaming companies have admitted that they’re prepared to lose a few subscribers once the rate increases take effect.
