A Hawaiian Stream Started Smelling Like Beer and It Turned Out to Have a 1.2% ABV

Anyone traveling to Hawaii for a good time might joke that the islands are swimming in booze, but one stream on the island of Oahu was literally flowing with alcohol. According to those who visited the stream in Waipio, the whole area smelled like beer. The Department of Health investigated and discovered that a spill was found to be coming from a drain pipe which officials traced back to Paradise Beverages, Hawaii’s largest distributor of alcoholic beverages. Tests done on the stream revealed that it had a 1.2% ABV (alcohol by volume), a quarter of the ABV of a Budweiser beer. Although the spill has apparently stopped, the Department of Health is looking into whether enforcement actions are warranted.
