To increase your visibility in the water, go bright. Neon colors — especially red, orange and yellow — can be easiest to spot in different aquatic settings. Increasing visibility can make a difference when seconds count. You may have heard that the color yellow is attractive to sharks, but that’s a myth. It got its start in World War II, when the U.S. Navy dealt with its fair share of shark attacks. Sailors came to believe that oranges and yellows associated with life preservers increased their chances of being targeted by sharks. In reality, sharks are colorblind. What may attract sharks is wearing stripes, which can have them mistake you for a fish…….otherwise known as “dinner.”
