Marc Suárez (inset) is famous for his intricate luxury cakes, but his latest creation is in a league of its own. Measuring 11½ feet tall and 6 feet wide, the Spanish pastry chef’s masterpiece looks more like a museum piece than a wedding cake. Commissioned by a family for a royal wedding, Suárez spent about a month and a half coming up with a suitable concept, and another four months making his vision a reality. Even though he normally works alone, for this particular project, he enlisted several of his pastry chef friends, as well as their family members, because of the amount of work required. Simply placing the 33,000 petals on the cake was an extraordinary effort. In total, some 1,800 hours of work went into making this incredible-looking cake, which ended up weighing a whopping 1,100 pounds. It was unveiled at the Paris Opera Garnier for the wedding of the couple who asked to remain anonymous. Suárez revealed that only about 0.1% of his incredible creation is actual cake, with the rest being hand-molded sugar paste and white chocolate. You may be wondering what a cake of that magnitude and labor cost. Unfortunately, you'll have to continue wondering........the price tag was not revealed.
