Police in Dunellen, New Jersey, have come up with a unique way to catch drivers using their cellphones: shrubbery. No, they don’t hide behind the shrubbery………they ARE the shrubbery. Officers stationed — or should we say “planted” — on North Washington Avenue, a highly trafficked, pedestrian-heavy downtown area, issued 74 citations to drivers they say were distracted by their devices within a 6-hour period. This is just one of the methods police are using to enforce New Jersey’s Handheld Cell Phone Law. "While it was a fun thing, the underlying mission is incredibly serious,” said Det. Sgt. Nicholas Goldman. "For a one-square-mile town, we have a relatively high number of accidents, and we were looking for a unique enforcement method.” You can’t get more unique than dressing up like a shrub.
