New FCC Ruling Could Force “The View” to Have an Equal Balance of Liberal and Conservative Guests

While the hens over at The View cackle on about political issues they know nothing about, the Federal Communications Commission has announced a change. The FCC’s “equal opportunities” rule has been in place since 1934, when Congress put protections in place to ensure equal access to broadcast stations. Shows like The View, The Tonight Show, The Late Show and Jimmy Kimmel Live! have had exemptions to the rule because they were previously classified as newscasts. Now those exemptions have been removed. Programs that want to retain their exemption will have an opportunity to file a petition. A recent investigation found that The View featured almost no right-wing guests in 2025. Longtime Executive Producer Brian Teta has repeatedly defended the show’s biases and legal notes by arguing that it functions like the editorial pages of a newspaper. However, media analyst Nick Fondacaro of Media Research Center points out, “Even newspapers have editorial standards that keep them from saying some of the unhinged things that The View hosts have said this year."
