In December 2021, Maggie DeGreenia’s cat Tinsel accidentally got out of the house and vanished. After weeks of searching, posting on Facebook groups, contacting shelters and putting up missing flyers, Maggie finally had to accept that her beloved pet was gone. The 27-year-old Vermont resident had lived with Tinsel since 2017, when she adopted her from a shelter. Then one day, Maggie received a text from her cousin, saying she had seen Tinsel on a local shelter’s page, instantly recognizing her from her unique mustache. Maggie, who was stunned, broke down in tears. She then called Riverside Rescue and confirmed that Tinsel was there. When Maggie arrived, Tinsel immediately recognized her and began pressing her forehead against Maggie’s in a touching display of affection. According to the shelter, Tinsel had been picked up by people who looked after her until December, before finally surrendering her.
