Gilded Age Mansion Undergoes Transformation to Save it From Demolition

The Thomas Howe Mansion near Boston was once a glamorous 4-story estate, but was left to deteriorate for years. In 2022, it was placed under the control of HUD, leaving it to face an uncertain future. Then realtor Ricky Beliveau swooped in and bought the once-ritzy estate for $1.1 million and set about renovating the property. Built in 1880, the home — named for a wealthy merchant — stood as a cherished cornerstone of the community. The 10,820-square-foot mansion has been revitalized and is now valued at $5.5 million. Beliveau and his team wanted to do a true historical renovation using the original moldings and crown work, but also wanted bring the house up to today’s living standards. The mansion offers 8 bedrooms, 6 full bathrooms, 1 half bathroom, a 3-car garage, and a finished walk-out lower level complete with a movie theater, wine lounge, mudroom, and full bath. While the ocean is a constant backdrop — with  views from nearly every window — the Howe Mansion isn’t simply a beach house — it’s a masterwork of architecture.
