Manhattan’s Biggest Mansion Finds a Buyer

Manhattan’s largest private residence has finally sold for $50 million. The massive Upper East Side residence — known as the Woolworth Mansion — was named after real estate magnate Frank W. Woolworth, who first lived in the home when it was built in 1915. Fitness guru Lucille Roberts and her husband, real estate investor Bob Roberts, bought the home in 1995 for $6 million and restored the mansion to its current grandeur. The mansion, just a block from Central Park, is 20,000 square feet and has 9 bedrooms, 11½ bathrooms, and 3 kitchens. Although the exterior may look like a classic Upper East Side townhouse, the interior is fit for royalty, featuring mosaic flooring, a sweeping grand staircase, and a dining room that can accommodate over 100 guests. It’s unclear who the new owner is — the sale has yet to hit city records — but it seems that the mansion’s time as the fanciest rental in New York is over.
