We’ve been watching the royal corgis almost as long as we’ve been keeping an eye on the royal family. We know Queen Elizabeth II loved her dogs, so when she died in 2022, the world was anxious to find out what was going to happen to her devoted pups. Fortunately, they’ve been in good hands at the Royal Lodge, one of the many grand retreats in the royal family’s stables of homes. However, now that the royal family member formerly known as Prince Andrew — now referred to as Andrew Mountbatten Windsor — has been stripped of his title and his home — the Royal Lodge — the world is once again waiting to learn the fate of Muick and Sandy, the two canine residents caught up in the melee. The good news is that the corgis will stay with Andrew and Fergie (Sarah Ferguson), who have been living in the 30-room Windsor house together. The couple are not expected to continue cohabitating, and Buckingham Palace didn’t specify which of the pair would have primary custody or whether their daughters, Beatrice and Eugenie, would be involved in the dogs’ care. Once he vacates the Royal Lodge, Andrew will likely move 140 miles north to Sandringham Estate, which is privately owned by King Charles. That will get Andrew out of the public eye and the family out of the sticky situation of having his home subsidized by the Crown. It’s reported that Fergie will not accompany Andrew to Sandringham, and will most likely not be caring for the corgis. It’s also speculated that the pooches won’t be handed off to Beatrice or Eugenie. One thing is certain, the corgis will continue to be fully pampered, including being served meals consisting of beef, corn-fed chicken, lamb, and rabbit, all prepared daily by the palace chefs. Andrew and Fergie should be so lucky.
