There Are the Only Two Places on Earth Where There’s No Speed Limit

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to drive any speed you wanted without worrying about getting a speeding ticket? Wonder no more. Depending where you are in the world, you can put the pedal to the metal and feel like a real-life Formula 1 driver. Before you check this thrill off your bucket list, you need to know where you can do it, how fast you can actually go, and what to expect before you rev up your engine. How fast can cars actually go? The fastest car on the planet is — believe it or not — an electric vehicle. The YangWang U9 Xtreme, made by Chinese automaker BYD, reached 304.8mph in 2019. As for American-made cars, the fastest is the General Motors Chevrolet Corvette XR1X, with a top speed of 233mph. The average vehicle, such as a sedan or SUV, is probably going to top out somewhere between 120mph and 140mph. There are currently only two countries that have roads with no speed limit. The Autobahn in Germany is the most famous road with no speed limit, where top speeds have reached 250mph. The other country is the Isle of Man, located in the Irish Sea between Great Britain and Ireland. The Mountain Course is a 37-mile stretch of road that has no speed limit. It contains sharp curves, more than 200 corners, and multiple elevation changes as it winds through the countryside. The average speed on the road reaches 130mph. When it comes to the United States, there are no roads without a speed limit. State Highway 130 in Texas has the highest speed limit in the U.S., allowing for 85mph on a 40-mile-long stretch between Austin and San Antonio. As for the highest speed limit in the world, the Czech Republic takes that title, with its D3 Motorway sporting a speed limit of 93mph.
