McDonald’s Appears to be Pricing Itself Into Bankruptcy

McDonald’s customers are taking to social media to air their grievances over the latest price increase on the fast-food chain staple, the Egg McMuffin. The favorite breakfast item has skyrocketed to $7.75, and that’s just for the sandwich alone. A meal, which includes hash browns and a drink is now a whopping $8.29. When the Egg McMuffin was first introduced in 1975, it was just 63¢, which would be $3.79 in today’s economy. McMuffins aren’t the only breakfast menu items to carry a heftier price tag. Bagels and biscuits have also shot up, with the Sausage Egg and Cheese Bagel increasing to $8.75, with the Sausage and Egg Biscuit jumping to $7.35. In New York, where everything is higher, customers can expect to shell out $12 for a Sausage Egg and Cheese McMuffin meal. Comments on social media include, “Never in my 28 years of being alive would I expect to pay $8 for a McDonald’s Egg McMuffin!” Some customers have even begun making the Egg McMuffin at home.
