Man Wins An Entire Resort On Micronesian Island With a $50 Raffle Ticket

If you thought winning the meat tray at a local festival was special, what about winning an entire resort on a tropical island? Josh Ptasznyk, 26, an Australian tax accountant from New South Wales, won his own remote Pacific island resort in a raffle, after shelling out just $50 for the winning ticket. The raffle for the 18-room Kosrae Nautilus Resort was organized by owners Doug and Sally Beitz, who had raised four sons there and were looking to hand over their resort to someone who enjoys warm weather, likes meeting new people from around the world, and is a bit adventurous. The raffle left the Beitz family about $4 million richer. When Josh took ownership of the resort in 2016, it was debt-free, profitable, and had more than 20 years left on its lease. Since then, it has become a very profitable island paradise that emphasizes comfort and convenience. Rooms rent for $119 per night for a single, $134 a night for a double, and children under 12 stay free.
