Krispy Kreme Lost $441 Million After Teaming Up With McDonald’s

In one of the more unexpected financial headlines this year, Krispy Kreme reported a net loss of $441 million in its second quarter, causing some to speculate about the company’s stability. Krispy Kreme says its loss comes as the result of partnering with McDonald’s, something they are now discontinuing. The McDonald’s partnership, which began in 2022, brought Krispy Kreme donuts to more than 2,400 McDonald's restaurants nationwide. The collaboration generated major buzz but proved difficult to sustain. This isn’t Krispy Kreme’s first major course correction. In 2024, the company sold its majority stake in Insomnia Cookies, ending a 7-year partnership to focus on its core business. For now, the company is going to focus all of its energy on what made it a fan favorite to begin with: great donuts at a reasonable price.
