Death Row Inmate Orders the Largest Last Meal in Prison History

In the United States, the tradition of death row prisoners having a final meal represents a final act of human dignity and compassion, despite the differing philosophical viewpoints on capital punishment itself. When it comes to last meals, there’s one death row inmate who holds the title of having the largest and most decadent last meal ever recorded in U.S. history. Gary Carl Simmons, Jr. was handed the death penalty for capital murder and was set to be executed on June 20, 2012. His final meal included a Pizza Hut medium Super Supreme Deep Dish pizza — double portion — with mushrooms, onions, jalapeño peppers, and pepperoni; a second 3-cheese pizza with olives, bell peppers, tomato, garlic, and Italian sausage; 10 8-oz packs of Parmesan cheese; 10 8-oz packs of Ranch dressing; one family-size pack of Doritos Nacho Cheese; 8-oz jalapeño nacho cheese; 4-oz sliced jalapeños; a super-size order of McDonald fries with extra ketchup and mayo; 2 pints of strawberry ice cream; 2 strawberry milkshakes; and 2 Cherry Cokes. He managed to plow through half the food he ordered and was executed 90 minutes later. His final words were: “Now, let’s get it on so these people can go home. That’s it.”
