A dog who survived being shot and losing her leg has found her perfect match with an Arizona man who also lost a limb, creating an extraordinary bond between two amputees who understand each other’s journey. Cleo was first discovered by the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office after being shot. Her injury was so severe that her leg had to be amputated. She was turned over to the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office's MASH (Maricopa Animal Safe Haven) unit, and once she recovered she was just waiting for the right adopter to come along. That perfect person turned out to be Zack Monticello, who lost his arm in a ATV crash in 2024. He said meeting Cleo felt like fate. “My wife and I just want to provide her with a happy home for the rest of her life and she’s fitting in real good,” said Zack. The mutual healing between the pair has been evident to everyone around them. MASH Unit’s Sgt. Gary Miller, who has witnessed many adoptions through the unit, said he recognized that this pairing was something special. “It’s a match made in heaven,” he said. “It’s amazing how well they’ve bonded, and we're super happy for them both."
