What You Might Not Know About the NBC Medical Sitcom “Scrubs”

Scrubs
is a medical sitcom that follows the lives of employees at the fictional Sacred Heart Hospital, which is a teaching hospital. What most people don’t know is that the series was actually filmed at North Hollywood Medical Center, a decommissioned hospital in the Valley Village neighborhood of Los Angeles. The production department took complete control of the hospital, with the existing hospital rooms reworked to be more production-friendly. That involved knocking down various walls to create larger, more open spaces such as the main ward and admissions. Instead of traditional trailers for the cast to retreat to during breaks, they were all given old hospital rooms, as well as a small allowance to redecorate them. Many of the actors would sleep in their rooms instead of going home after working late. The building used for the exterior shots of the fictional Sacred Heart Hospital were filmed at the intersection of Ince Boulevard and Lindblade Street in Culver City, Calif. The show was officially cancelled on May 14, 2010.
