Mom Who Lets Her Kids Stay Up as Late as They Want Outrages Social Media

Most parents have a strict bedtime for kids, but not Emily Boazman. The 35-year-old mother-of-three lets her children — Crew (9), Knox (7) and Keen (3) — stay up as late as they want, sometimes going to bed as late as 2 a.m. — even on school nights. Emily, from Clovis, New Mexico, said her husband Jake doesn’t get home from work until close to 9 p.m., so they often have dinner at 9:30 p.m. After dinner, they watch TV, do some housework, and do some prep for the next day while the kids play. They finally get started on the bedtime routine around 11:45 p.m., with the kids getting to bed close to midnight. While the routine has outraged people on social media — calling it child abuse — Emily insists that staying up late has only enriched her children’s lives, and she still ensures they get enough sleep. She explained that her kids sleep in every morning because they’re homeschooled. Her youngest also takes naps anywhere from 3-5pm. Emily confessed that she and her husband Jake have been night owls all their lives and are most productive in the evening hours. While they didn’t force their lifestyle on their children, the youngsters naturally ended up on the same schedule. She said she never expected such a fierce backlash on social media. In the end, she reminded commenters that every parent is different and not everyone will take the same approach.
