Walmart Locks Up Socks

In a shocking move, retail giant Walmart has made the decision to lock up — of all things — socks! Most of the socks locked in cases are unisex socks, with nearly all of them selling for under $20. Multiple users have taken to social media to rant about the latest lock-up, calling it “ridiculous.” Major retailers, including Walmart, Target, Walgreens and CVS, have increasingly resorted to locking up everyday items to reduce the chance of shoplifting. The practice has sparked customer frustration, with many complaining about the inconvenience of having to wait for an employee to unlock basic necessities. Items that have typically been kept under lock and key tend to be on the more expensive side, such as deodorant and laundry detergent, but locking underwear away seems to be a little over the top for most consumers. Still, in another Walmart in Nevada, $1.50 nail files are behind plexiglass. “This is the future of Walmart,” said one shopper. After the most recent backlash, Walmart says it’s considering the idea of customers being able to unlock display cases with their phones. The technology is currently being tested in a few hundred Walmart stores, but the company hasn’t announced plans for a nationwide rollout.
