Why Home Security Signs Could Actually Get You Robbed

According to the FBI, there are about 839,563 reported cases of home burglaries annually. There are several things you can do to make your home safer, including getting a dog, installing motion-sensor lights, or putting up a sign that has a logo for a security company. While the first two might work, experts warn that a security sign isn’t always a deterrent. Burglars look for the path of least resistance. If a yard looks unkempt, mail is piling up, or a window is cracked open, those are signs of a less protected house. Unfortunately, security signs fall into that category. While inexperienced burglars might avoid a house with a security sign, professional burglars won’t be intimated by it. The chances are high that they have learned the intricacies associated with disarming security systems. That sign in your front yard could, in fact, backfire and result in a burglars choosing your house because they know how to disarm the system. So, if you plan on installing a security system, do some research to find out how easily the system might be cracked. A more effective way of deterring burglars is to install a network of cameras and make sure they’re visible to passersby. Even professional burglars don’t want to take the chance of getting caught on a video.
