Most People Are Not Prepared For a Terrifying New Wave of AI-Generated Videos

Don’t skip this article because you think you know what AI content looks like. The current stuff you’re seeing on social media feeds is easy enough to spot if you know what you’re looking for, but it pales in comparison to the new Veo 3 unveiled by Google. This latest AI video model can generate highly realistic sequences, which isn’t all that surprising. What’s scary is that Veo 3 can also generate audio to go with the video. That includes sound effects and lip-synced dialogue. If you want to see for yourself, watch the first video below. The quality is sharp and realistic, and the words the man speaks are synced to his lip movements. Of course, knowing upfront that the video is AI-generated will throw you off. Without that knowledge, this video would even fool fans of fake videos. The second video below should sound the alarm for all of us. Someone generated a fake video of a fake car show, featuring fake interviews with fake attendees. It's far from perfect, but any AI quirks are totally overshadowed by the surface-level realism. Not only would the average Joe buy it, most tech savvy people would as well. We're in scary territory now. Today, it's demos of musicians and cats. Tomorrow, it's a politician saying something they didn't really say; a suspect committing a crime they didn’t really commit; a "reporter" feeding the public lies through the so-called news. AI-generated videos can be incredibly convincing, making it crucial to be vigilant and employ strategies to avoid being misled or harmed.
