When it comes to musical entertainers, tours are a necessity for several reasons, including financial gain, promotional opportunities, personal growth and fan engagement. Touring allows artists to generate income through ticket sales and merchandise, especially in an era when record sales have declined. One artist who has never toured is Irish folk singer Enya. Despite being a top-selling artist with over 75 million records sold worldwide, she has not undertaken a concert tour or even performed a solo concert. The 64-year-old has often stated that she values her privacy and enjoys the process of creating music in her studio. She has also indicated that the process of creating her music, which often takes several years, makes touring difficult to fit into her schedule and that replicating the quality of her studio recordings on stage would be challenging. While Enya has had a few live performances, including one at the 74th Academy Awards in 2002, most of her appearances on television have been lip-synced or with her singing along to her original recordings. Nevertheless, she has stated that she considers touring to be an option.
