On Monday, a large-scale search was launched for 2-year-old Boden Allen, who had been reported missing in Seligman, Ariz., about 100 miles from the Grand Canyon National Park. The boy was last seen in the treacherous desert wearing only pajama bottoms and a blue tank top. Authorities later confirmed that the area where the boy went missing has a reputation for sightings of lions, coyotes, and the occasional bear. Over 40 volunteers gathered to search the area for the toddler, but it was a 150-pound Anatolian Pyrenees named Buford who gets the credit for the boy’s rescue. Rancher Scotty Dunton (pictured), Buford’s owner, was met with a heartwarming scene when he went down his driveway. There sat Buford with Boden. The massive dog had spotted the young boy, brought him up from the horse pasture and through the gate onto the Dunton property. Dunton Ranch is a whopping seven miles from the Boden family home. Scotty was able to give the boy some food and water while they waited for the authorities. Buford, whose job it is to guard the land and keep coyotes away, loves kids, so it’s not surprising that he led Boden to safety. Scotty made sure Buford got a reward for his heroic efforts. “Oh, he’s getting steak for dinner tonight," he said.
