British Marine’s Tattoo Reads “You’ll Never Walk” After Amputation

While serving as a Royal Marine in Afghanistan, Andy Grant lost his leg after stepping on a landmine. He had to learn to walk with a prosthetic leg, but was eventually able to win a couple of gold medals at the Invictus Games. One of the reasons for his success happens to be a tattoo. The amputation of his leg lost the word “alone” from the “You’ll never walk alone” tattoo by his knee. Grant said his altered tattoo has always been a bit of a joke, and he even uses it in some of the motivational speeches he makes. “It’s ironic that it says I will never walk, as I’ve gone on to run a 10K in 40 minutes.” In fact, the 26-year-old is just two minutes off the record for the 10K for a single leg amputee. “The fact is that regardless of what the words say, the operation allowed me to walk and run and do so much else. You’ve got to see the funny side of it.”
