Owner of the Last Video Rental Store In An Idaho City Saves a Collection For a Customer With Down Syndrome

The last video rental store in Pocatello, Idaho, will live on in a small way, only for its most passionate customer. Although Video Stop has discontinued all rentals and is liquidating the majority of its video collection, owner David Kraning is keeping a small portion of movies tucked away in a corner for customer Christina Cavanaugh. The 35-year-old goes to Video Stop nearly every day with her mother, Tina Cavanaugh. For Christina, who has Down Syndrome and is mostly nonverbal, going to rent a movie has been vital to her routine for the past 15 years. For her mother, it’s a relief to know that her daughter will be able to continue her routine. Kraning knew that closing Video Stop would cause stress in Christina's life, but it had gotten to the point where he could no longer keep it open. As he tried to think of a solution, he realized that he had a corner of his store that he had originally developed for deli storage, but that didn’t take off like the thought. Since the area was unused, he decided to make the area “Christina’s Corner.”
