TikTokers Dropping Heavy Objects On Their Feet Risk a Lifetime Of Pain

A podiatrist is warning TikTok users of a risk of a lifetime of pain and disability by copying a viral trend to drop objects, including air fryers, toasters, and even hammers on their feet. Creators on the short-form app have shared videos of themselves dropping heavy objects on their feet and then ranking how painful each item is. Luke Pilling, from Bolton, Scotland, received more than 3.8 million views for a video which shows him jumping around his room in pain after dropping a toaster, air fryer and computer monitor on his feet. Asked why he decided to join the trend, the 19-year-old said he was curious and the videos were funny. However, podiatrist Dr. Benjamin Bullen said the trend could risk lasting damage to nerves, bones and joints in the feet. Unfortunately, money earned from the videos has encouraged people to take part anyway. It might seem funny at the time, but the damage they may have to live with later won’t be so funny.
