A family of beavers has become an overnight sensation in the Czech Republic after taking just 2 days to build a series of dams that the government had been struggling to build for 7 years. A project to restore water areas to a nature park began in 2018, but authorities had taken years to get all the right permits and finally get construction of the necessary dams underway. The cost of the dams needed to restore the wetlands to their original condition was in the neighborhood of $1.2 million. Thanks to the family of diligent beavers, the government doesn’t have to spend a dime. Environmentalists monitoring the nature park spotted the dam built by the industrious beavers. “Beavers always know best. The places where they build dams are always chosen just right, better than when we design it on paper,” said Jaroslav Obermajer, head of the Central Bohemian office of the Czech Nature and Landscape Protection Agency.
