Meet the 70-Year-Old Car Collector Who Owns 50 Vehicles and Still Drives Them All

There’s nothing 70-year-old Jane Weitzmann loves more than her automobiles. In fact, she had to build a huge 65-car garage just to hold them all. She has always been a collector of cars — it’s something that’s in her blood. Her father was a collector and she grew up with that unmistakable smell of oil, gasoline and leather in her nostrils. She and her late husband also collected cars, and she wouldn’t have it any other way. These are not soulless museum pieces, sealed away in a temperature-controlled storage facility somewhere. Jane buys cars because she likes driving them, not because she thinks they’re a good investment. Among her eclectic collection is a DeLorean, a Fiat Gamine, a Suzuki Jeep, and a Jaguar XJ220, to name a few. When it comes to rare, one of the undisputed stars of the show is her Toyota 2000GT, which is apparently the only road registered car of its type in the UK. She doesn’t limit herself to cars, also collecting motorbikes and scooters as well. Jane's company, JHW Classics, rents out cars for film and television shoots, magazine shoots, weddings, funerals, school proms, and bar mitzvahs. When it comes to her classic collection, Jane said her favorite car to drive is her 1999 Ford F150 lightning pickup. “It’s not as valuable as some others, so I can push it,” she said. Another favorite is her Datsun 240ZG, which she admired when she was younger but could never afford. Jane said she makes sure all of her vehicles get driven every 8 weeks and doesn’t see the point in buying them just to keep them locked away. “For me, it’s all about the driving, not about the investment,” said Jane. If she doesn’t enjoy the drive, the car gets sold.
