Don’t Adopt a Maine Coon Cat Unless You Have Plenty of Room

Beyond their fluffy coats and long tails, Maine Coons possess greater heft than any other domestic cat breed. While a typical cat weighs somewhere between 8 and 10 pounds, an adult Maine Coon can weigh between 10 and 25 pounds. Their height spans approximately 10 to 16 inches. Based on the standard Maine Coon cat size, you might feel a bit intimidated by the breed, but these longhaired cats are often called gentle giants because of how kind and mellow they are. Unlike many other cats that are known for being more independent — or even standoffish — this particular breed loves to interact with people and other pets. So, how big is the biggest Maine Coon cat alive today? The Italian feline Barivel is the current reigning champion at 3 feet 11 inches long. Born in 2016, Barivel — which translates to clown or joker — is unusually large, even for a Maine Coon.
