Celebrities Are Starting to Pay the Price for Spouting Off About Politics

A recent poll shows that Americans want to hear less about politics from celebrities. After an election season where endorsements from celebrities frequently made the headlines, a whopping 61% of Americans are calling for actors and athletes to stop sounding off on politics. It seems that studios are feeling the pressure as well, and now some Hollywood stars are beginning to lose jobs over it. Julia Roberts is one of those stars. The A-Lister, who has gotten way too involved in politics, was recently fired from two projects. Both Universal Studios and Columbia Studios booted Roberts from two romantic comedy films and one action film. Now word is spreading that studio executives are unwilling to work with Roberts for any film in their lineup for the rest of the 2020s. It seems that Roberts brought this on herself, as Columbia Studios pressured her to give up politics in the public eye and she refused. In the eyes of studio executives, she is no longer the “Pretty Woman,” but has become the “Petty Woman.” Roberts is not alone in her dilemma. Other stars are falling like dominoes in the wake of studios becoming fed up with their political rantings. Robert DeNiro, George Clooney and Alec Baldwin have all lost jobs because of their criticism of Donald Trump. Warner Brothers, Columbia, and Universal are just some of the studios who are waking up to the fact that Hollywood stars are costing them a lot of money, and it’s going to take many years to recover.
