Why “The Rookie” Character Talia Bishop is No Longer on the Show

Despite having an integral role and a promising future on the ABC police drama The Rookie, Afton Williamson, who played the role of Officer Talia Bishop, left the show after Season 1. The series debuted in 2018 with a story line that follows John Nolan, played by Nathan Fillion, a 45-year-old Pennsylvania divorcee who pursues a new career as a police officer in the LAPD. His late shift in occupation makes him the oldest rookie on the force, and the show explores his determination to overcome ageism skepticism and the dangerously predictable nature of the job. Nolan’s training officer is Officer Talia Bishop, who has a dream of her own — to eventually become Chief of Police. In a shocking and unexpected turn of events, Williamson quit The Rookie in 2019 after serious claims of behind-the-scenes conflict. She claimed that she had endured racial discrimination and alleged to have encountered sexual harassment at the hands of recurring guest star Demetrius Grosse (inset), who plays the role of Det. Kevin Wolf. Over a month after Williamson’s allegations, the production studio, eOne, announced that an independent third-party investigation had cleared those accused of inappropriate conduct. The character of Talia Bishop was written out early in Season 2, when it was announced that she was leaving to join the ATF. The Rookie prematurely lost one of its main cast members, and while it's unclear whether the actress decided to leave the public spotlight behind or had trouble finding roles after speaking out, Williamson has not had many acting credits since.
