It was a busy evening at the Stardust Casino in Las Vegas in 1992, with gamblers betting on Monday Night Football. Cashier William Brennan was assigned to count the money. As usual, he wrapped up the funds for deposit, but this time he made a run for it. He was never seen or heard from again, and he has eluded capture for over three decades. Manager Richard Saber said the mild-mannered Brennan wasn’t the type he would expect to mastermind a heist, but he managed to walk out of the casino with half a million dollars in cash and the rest in chips. Brennan was immediately put on the FBI’s Most Wanted List, but today he’s no longer a wanted man. In 2006, the same year the Stardust Casino closed its doors for good, Brennan’s case was dismissed by the U.S. Attorney’s office in Nevada. Saber thinks Brennan was murdered for the money shortly after the heist. “For Bill Brennan to pull that off and never contact any of his family is beyond my wildest imagination. I just don’t think it could have happened,” said Saber. If Brennan did manage to start a new life somewhere else with the money he stole, he can stop looking over his shoulder now.
